Sunset Crater Volcano
Nearly a thousand years ago, the ground opened up, and lava erupted into the sky. This eruption caused the Northern Arizona Landscape to change forever. Today, the Sunset Crater Volcano sits dormant with trees and flowers growing amongst the lava rocks.
People can visit the park and hike along the trails to see the lava rocks and lava flow. Hiking is only permittedĀ on the designated trails to help preserve and protect the fragileĀ geological and archeological features, as well as the recovering landscape.
