What is the history of Oatman, AZ?
Oatman was founded in 1906 and was once home to over 10,000 miners, women, and bandits during the 1900's gold rush. Miners had produced over 1.8 million ounces of gold by the mid-1930's here, but it was quickly abandaoned after the gold rush. The town became a ghost town around 1942, when the last of the mines closed. The miners famously left behind their donkeys, which is why the town is overrun with burros today.
